Pension Benefits System

SIL first developed and implemented the Pension Benefits System for the National Pension Fund (NPF) of the Republic of Mauritius in 1994.

The Pension Benefits System is used to collect money from employers and performs the monitoring of pre-payments and arrears. It monitors the returns submitted by the employer at the cash office. Up-to-date remittances are obtained on the employer's ledger. Any arrears are highlighted and all claims and reminders are produced automatically. Surcharges are calculated automatically.

The system collects money by post or funds deposited at the Ministry. An acknowledgement receipt is printed and the collection listings are issued to the cashier for registration of collections. The system monitors returns, provides facility for data capture of the returns, validates and reconciles with payments made. Provisions are made for returns to be collected on an annual basis too.

The system monitors accounts of employers with adequate control. Facility is provided to record payments to be made by standing order and processing thereof when evidence of payment is received through bank statements. It computes and refunds NPF/NSF contributions via applications received. It also caters for the preparation of cheques for awardees and lump sum payments. The system also monitors legal proceedings for both civil and criminal cases. Details such as offences committed, date case lodged, type of legal proceedings as well as details of non-paid contributions being sued are available for necessary follow-up.

The issue of National Identity Cards is possible using the Pension Benefits System.

The Pension Benefits System was also implemented for the Governments of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Burundi.
