State Informatics Limited participated at the GOVTECH 2009 event, organised by the South African State Information Technology Agency (SITA), and which was held at the Durban ICC between Sunday the 13th and Wednesday the 16th of September 2009.
GovTech 2009 is the fourth annual conference of the SITA and stands as the pre-eminant public sector technology learning event of the year.
This year, the theme for GovTech was “Doing ICT for the Citizens”. The 2009 theme explored the worldwide trend towards greater integration between government agencies at all levels; enabled by information and communication technology (ICT) and driven by the new, citizen-centric paradigm of governance.
Solutions based on Open Source Technology are becoming the norm in Africa and this was emphasised during the conference and exhibition. A representative from OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE INSTITUTE of Washington (USA), as well as several other international speakers on the theme, were present.
The GovTech 2009 has been a world-class knowledge-sharing platform aimed at:
- Supporting government’s transformation to a citizen-centric future, enabled by ICT
- Taking stock of progress across key ICT initiatives
- Addressing ICT-specific public sector issues and challenges
- Sharing lessons learnt in global best practices
- Identifying smart ICT practices
- Facilitating the exchange of ideas
- Ensuring the dialogue continues
Exhibitors included Government Departments, Public Sector companies, Municipalities, Suppliers of ICT Solutions to the Government and International Representatives.
Participants/Visitors/Invitees included, among others, Ministers, Head of Provinces, CEOs of Municipal Councils, Renowned Specialist – speakers in Global/International Forums in the ICT sector, solution providers to SITA/Government, Specialists involved in the ICT sector, representatives from Government Agencies which regulate public sector services, Delegates from various countries from the African Region.
